I don’t know about you, but I need water on my night stand every night. Not just water, but ice-cold water. I can’t go to sleep without it. I also like to keep cold water near, especially during dry weather, so I can keep myself hydrated. I sometimes get, what I call tickle fits in my throat at the oddest times during my slumber, and only cold water can cure them.
The problem with keeping water by the bedside is that the ice melts too fast and the water becomes tepid. I abhor tepid water for other reasons that I might have to post in a rant, and a glass without a lid is like “open water”. . .you don’t know what lies beneath! It’s just not a good situation when you think about the particles floating in your glass. It’s practically a hot tub for bacteria. Well, maybe it’s not that dire.
In my search for a solution, I tried several options. On one of my trips to the dollar store, I found a mason jar with a one piece lid. Real mason jars have the two-part lid which is a bit of a pain, but drinking from them is sort of homey, don’t you think? Anyway, I filled it about two-thirds full of ice and poured in cold water and put a lid on it! This kept the particles at bay, but the ice still melted quick, so this plan was a bust. I had also purchased a silver glitter cup at the dollar store (you know it had to be sparkly), and this was the next test. I had about the same results as I did with the mason jar and realized that I really dislike drinking water from a straw. Only water though. . .odd.
Then finally, a great idea. My final purchase was a tall insulated travel mug, sans handle, nice and sleek like a glass. I put in 5-6 ice cubes and filled it with water and set off to bed. Not to my surprise I woke up around 4am that very morning with a crazy tickle fit in effect. I instinctively reach for my water. Ahhhh! Boy was I thrilled to taste that cold water going down the back of my throat. The next morning there was still significant ice left in the mug and it was still cold. Eureka! Found my Jaxsolution! I will never again be afraid of a little late night tickle. . .
. . .Ahem
