There’s been a lot of buzz about tea tree essential oil lately and how well it works for a myriad of issues like lice, acne, dandruff, colds, sinus problems and much more. Tea tree oil can even be used for household cleaning too.
I was given a recipe ebook to browse through before my bottle of Apothecary Extract’s 100% Pure Australian Tea Tree Essential Oil arrived in the mail, so I knew exactly which recipes I wanted to try. There are over 50 of them, and some of the recipes and uses were quite surprising. I chose the Moisturizing Face Wash, Steam Inhalant, and the Fortifying Citrus Foot Scrub.
Here are my top 3 uses for Tea Tree Oil.
1 The moisturizing face wash left my face feeling clean and refreshed. This is made with greek yogurt, fresh lemon juice and tea tree oil, very simple to make, This is a good cleanser for dry skin that I can use 2 to 3 times a week. Having combination skin, I don’t want to use it too much. I sometimes have breakouts, so I will also use it during my flareups to see if it helps.
2The steam inhalant was a perfect choice for two reasons; I am a singer and I suffer from allergies/congestion. For this one all you need is hot water, eucalyptus oil, a bowl, a towel and the tea tree oil. I placed the mix in the bowl and covered my head with the towel and inhaled the steam for about 10 minutes. This cleared up the nasal congestion and it did clear my throat, leaving my voice phlegm-less and ready to perform. La-la-la-la!
3Last but not least, the fortifying citrus foot scrub. I mean, it’s summer and what woman does not want good looking sandal ready feet? This recipe requires sea salt, coconut or jojoba oil (I used virgin coconut oil), lime zest, grapefruit zest, tea tree oil, and a clean jar with lid. I actually omitted the grapefruit zest (because I didn’t have any) and used peppermint oil and lemon zest instead. My feet felt soft and smooth after this scrub. I like that I can make enough to keep it on hand.
As for the tea tree oil itself, it has a medicinal smell which may be off putting to some, but a lot of the recipes use essential oils, most likely to mask the mildly pungent odor. Lemon, lavender and eucalyptus are good ones to have on hand.
A little tea tree essential oil goes a long way so this 4 oz bottle should last a long time, depending on your use of course. It’s great for the skin, teeth, hair, and a whole host of general maladies. I can’t wait to see what tea tree oil can do around the house.
