The Mega Mesh Premium Magnetic Screen Door
By Easy Install Review
The Mega Mesh Premium Magnetic Screen Door comes packed in a clear plastic bag with a color poster showing through. What worries me about this? Well, during shipping we know anything can happen, and I would hope that the screen material would not get ripped or torn during the process. Luckily it came packed in a cardboard shipping box.
What’s in the package? All of the instructions and details are on the included poster making it easy to get right to installation. Upon inspection this is what I found.
The screen material itself is very nice, and looks like it should hold up to wear and tear – and believe me, my Snack Pack will work tirelessly to tear it up – or perhaps I should say tear it down 🙂
In a small plastic package there are pre-cut adhesive Velcro strips. The screen door also comes with tacks that you can use in place of, or in conjunction with the velcro. Unfortunately, I am installing on a surface where I cannot use the tacks, so I can’t tell you much about how they work.
This screen door is actually two panels that are connected in the center at the very top. This makes it easier to install, because you don’t have to deal with lining up two separate panels.
There are magnets down the center on each panel that measure about 2-3 inches each and are spaced out from top to bottom.
Is it easy to set up? Pretty much. I simply laid it out on my doggie hair-free carpet which made for a great flat surface. I applied the velcro strips in the suggested places along the outer edge of the screen. I also went ahead and lined up the magnets.
Is it easy to install? Yup! One tip I can offer before you install the Magnetic Screen Door is this: if possible, clean the surface where the adhesive will be applied with a little rubbing alcohol first. It dries quickly and will provide a very clean surface which allows the adhesive to stick very well. Otherwise you may be faced with a screen door that constantly falls down.
I took the door in one piece and installed it fairly easy. The velcro attached well and the magnets took a little to re-align once again. Just had to make sure everything was straight and that the bottom was not dragging on the floor.
Of course I enlisted the Snack Pack to try it out, because I really use this type of screen door for them – well, really for me, so I don’t have to keep letting them in and out. Guess I am trying to make them a little more independent 🙂
Alas, the time comes for the Snack Pack test. Butters did not want to participate, so it’s just River and Jelly this time. Check out the video below to see how it held up through initial tests.
Now after having this door up for several weeks, the Snack Pack has been in and out, in and out and they have shown me the strong and weak points of this screen door.
First, the magnets have to fight to rejoin themselves after the dogs run through at a quick pace. If they move at a slow pace, there are no problems. Wind is not a friend of the screen door – gusty breezes kept pushing the bottom of the door apart giving room for the bugs to make their way inside.
Additionally, the velcro strips on the Mega Mesh Premium Magnetic Screen Door are just not enough for my guys. They are pretty big dogs and if they catch it the right way, the velcro disengages on the sides which again leaves room for bugs to break through.
The screen material actually holds up to the paws, the scratching, snagging and clawing. I haven’t noticed any holes, rips or tears and that’s a good thing.
I do wish that the magnets ran all the way down the center, because sometimes they don’t quite line up and the screen does not close completely as you see in the video.
So, is it worth the money? Yes. However, personally, I need a little more substance in the form of Velcro and magnets for the Snack Pack, but my circumstances are different when it comes to wear and tear. If the Mega Mesh Premium Magnetic Screen Door will be used by humans or small pets, then this screen door will work for you. Overall, it is well made, and it has better magnets than the one “As Seen On TV” (don’t waste your time or money on that one!).
Additionally, make sure you measure your door BEFORE ordering this product. Nothing worse than having to make a return when you can avoid it. The door measures 36″x83″ and fits doors up to 34″x82″ maximum. Measure twice, order once.
