As promised in Part 2, I’m back with Part 3 in this series of My Crazy Pond Project. I finally purchased my fountain along with the pump and filter box and I’m almost ready for installation – complete with video!  I have whined a long time about wanting a fountain. There’s nothing like the sound of moving water, be it a trickle or a swish, a waterfall, or even crashing waves. So. . .

Where to start? Again, not cost effective to have someone else do it. Let’s check out YouTube to see if there’s a tutorial on how to do a pond fountain myself. Most of the videos I found were mostly fountains for really big ponds, or very small water features. I simply wanted something to spurt a little water about and help create some aeration and movement – a medium sized water feature. With no real help fromYouTube, I did gain some very helpful knowledge by asking a local bed and breakfast owner about his beautiful pond. With this information, I felt ready to take on the next phase of this project.

Pond Old Glory Days 1

In Part 1 and Part 2, I showed you how I did a little pond maintenance and added pond dye. Now I am going to show you the steps I took to complete the fountain portion of this project. 

My apologizes for the haphazardness of this first video. I started putting the pond fountain together and then decided to make it a video project as well. I’ll show you what to buy and how to put it all together in this video. Later in Part 4, we’ll get to the actual installation, but I have to get some waders first!  

The items I purchased for this project include:

Smartpond Water Garden Mechanical Filter Box from Lowes.com for $29.00 (includes fine and coarse screens, and ten bio balls that help clean the water).

Smartpond Water Garden Pond Nozzle Kit from Lowes.com for $17.48 (includes 4 nozzles,trumpet,3 tier,waterbell,foamjet)

Pond Pump (330 gpm, 12 ft max height) from Doctor’s Foster and Smith for $29.99.

Putting all of these items together took me about 20 minutes, because as you will see in the video, there was a learning curve for me, having never done this before. There was also a point when one of the parts was taken by the gnomes, but they returned it rather quickly, although I did waste a little time looking for it. Otherwise, it should take you a quick 10 minutes to put everything together.
