Tested and Connected
A series of tests almost took me over the edge in the past few days.
I woke up Wednesday to find I had an internet connection problem. I had quite a bit of work to get done, so I called my internet provider – the cable company. I was told that no one was working on Thursday (even though it was not a holiday), and I would just have to wait until Friday. Unacceptable. . .but I hung up and blew a bit of steam out of my facial orifices. I marinated a while and then decided to call back in an attempt to get quicker service.
I did not berate, yell or scream at the representative on the phone, but I did make it known that I was not happy with waiting that long. Naturally, I also reminded them that they would not be happy if they had to wait until I had time to make a payment to them. Working from home demands an internet connection and it is very important for the job I perform.
I was happy when they scheduled me for 3pm the very same day. It wasn’t an easy fix, but they were completely accommodating after that second call. Service. . .so far so good.
Test number two was one of patience. I woke up Thursday morning to a power outage. Great! Not only am I without a connection, I’m pretty much dead in the water.
So I plugged in my old rotary phone and dialed my provider – the power company. All I hear is an automated voice telling me that they are aware of the outage, and will call me back once power is restored. Do they really think I need them to call me when the power is back on? Can I not see the steady flashing clock on the stove showing me the exact time the power went out, and the fact that the beast has awakened and needs to be reset.
Oh well, nothing I can do, so I went outside with the snack pack and lounged in the early morning sun. Seemed a short time had passed when all of a sudden I hear the trance inducing sound of water flowing from my new pond fountain (upcoming video demo/project). Turned out, this last test was a short one, but nonetheless frustrating dealing with the “companies”. I’ve suffered through the great northeast outage in 2003, so most of my outages, thankfully not many, are not to be afforded too much angst.
After being tested and connected successfully, and with all of my powers fully restored, I apologized to the universe for anything I may have done to anger her and promptly sat down to work.
Internet connection problem solved!
