In this day and age everyone is jumping on board the fitness train – all aboard for exercise, juicing, supplement city – you name it! I purchased a ticket for coach, but I think I’m ready to travel first class! Hubs is already traveling first class, and he got me thinking about moving and grooving a bit more since I am still on a quest for weight loss. With walking being a great way to get my cardio in check and get some exercise in, I thought trying the Ozeri 4×3 Motion Digital Pocket 3D Pedometer with Tri-Axis Technology would be a great way to start.

I decided to try using a pedometer to see just how much walking I could get done. Ozeri offered us both the chance to try their 4×3 Motion Digital Pocket 3D Pedometer and it has really been a great travel companion.
My doctors are always telling me that walking is probably one of the best exercises I can do. Being a native New Yorker, I had to walk almost everywhere I went, although it was not and still is not my favorite activity. Hubs has been involved in fitness campaigns at his job using pedometers where the person who gets the most steps in a certain period of time wins a prize of some sort – I don’t know what – but it’s pretty significant and very motivating.
My motivation is simple – Lose Some Weight. . .NOW!! Fortunately the Ozeri 4x Motion Digital Pedometer will be along for the trip.
Packaging: The Ozeri 4×3 Motion Digital Pocket 3D Pedometer comes in a plastic blister pack, and the pedometer itself is prominently displayed. It comes with a lanyard, a small screwdriver (to access the battery compartment), and an instruction booklet to get you familiar and ready to use the pedometer. It runs on a lithium battery which is also included and installed – thanks Ozeri!
Out of the Box: The pedometer has a nice, slim profile. It’s small enough to fit in your pocket, but not too small to lose. We tried to attach the lanyard, but we had the absolute hardest time, and we still have not figured it out. I find that the string section could be a little longer, or maybe a little stiffer, which would make getting it through the small hole much easier. I could spend some time hacking a way to get it done, but it works fine without the lanyard.
Setup: Thankfully this pedometer is really easy to set up. Simply enter setup mode and program the pedometer with your weight, stride, day, month, year, minutes and 12/24 hour clock. Calculating your stride is a very simple process and takes just minutes. The pedometer is now ready for use.
Pedometer in Use: Once your personal info is set, you can start walking immediately. This pedometer tracks your total steps taken, distance walked, time walked and calories burned for the day. The memory is reset at midnight each day, but your records are still accessible for up to 7 days. You can also get cumulative totals for the 7 day period as well.
The LED screen is clear and the data is readable. It also sports a blue backlight for nighttime use. The buttons are small, but constructed in a way that makes them easy to press. The pedometer itself is small and streamline and fits nicely into your pants or shirt pocket. You don’t have to worry about orientation of the unit – the Tri-Axis technology means it will work in any position. It automatically turns on when you pick it up and shuts off when not in use which is great for battery life. Once you start walking the motion sensor starts tracking your steps.
Final thoughts: Both Hubs and I really dig this little pedometer. It’s sleek and slick, and very easy to use. This device serves up a lot of information. Other pedometers we have used in the past basically track your steps and nothing else. You have to remember to turn them on and off, keep them oriented correctly, and you get none of the extras like calories burned or a backlit LED. The automatic on/off is fantastic. Just slip it in a pocket and take off walking. You don’t have to touch it again until you pull it back out of your pocket to see your daily totals.
